Chapter #2

Reciprocity
There is one word which may serve as a rule of practice for all one’s life—reciprocity.  — Confucius

One key point about reciprocity is that neither party is in a dominant position. Reciprocity can be thought of in terms of simple playground level ethics.  You play with me, so I play with you.  I share my toys so you share yours.  You invite me to your birthday party so I invite you to mine.  You find time to play in my sandbox, so I find time to play in yours.  And, just as the children on the playground get their feelings hurt when efforts are not reciprocated, so do adults.  Only now, the stakes are higher.  Play becomes a higher level of social inter-action.  Toys become resources — your money, your time, services — and birthday parties morph to become significant social or business events.
