Friendships and social relationships, by their very nature, require at least some degree of the first of the 3R’s, Reciprocity of Effort, in order to exist at all.  Reciprocity can be the friend who is willing to take the time to listen in such a way that you feel heard and understood, even during seemingly trivial social conversation.  Reciprocity can be the friend who will feed your cat while you are on vacation and, in turn, you will feed his goldfish while he is away on business...
