Chapter #6
Solutions

Success means knowing who you are,
what you want, and how you are going to get there.

When we feel like a victim, or stuck, or going round and round in the same situation, it is time for change, time to take appropriate action.  But before you begin to make your plan, ask yourself which is more important to you in this situation and in this relationship:  Is it being liked or being respected?  Remember, it may be difficult to have both at the same time.  Those that are able to be both liked and respected on a consistent basis in difficult situations are often described as “charismatic leaders.”  Examples include Gandhi, JFK, or Churchill.  And even they had their detractors.  The rest of us may have to make a conscious choice to be liked or respected in a given situation.  This could be in your place of work, at home as a parent, out on a first date, at a dinner party, or in your homeowners association meeting.
